Presentation:
Molecular machines of double-strand break repair: What they look like and how they work

Bio

Claire Wyman received her PhD in Molecular Biology from The University of California at Berkeley in 1990 in the group of Dr. E. Blackburn. Her postdoctoral work with Dr. H. Echols, University of California at Berkeley, focused on EM studies to understand complex nucleoprotein assemblies of DNA replication. In collaboration with Dr. Carols Bustamante she applied Scanning Force Microscopy (SFM) to study DNA replication and transcription machinery. She joined the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam in 1996. Here she established the Center for Scanning Force Microscopy of Biological Nanomachines. Several collaborative projects with biophysics groups apply new microscopy and single molecule techniques to study DNA repair mechanisms. In 2005 she was appointed Associate Professor and in 2008 full Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Erasmus MC.
